On 30th March 2014 Thanet Road Club launched its Race Team at their local racing circuit Fowlmead country park, during the Thanet Road Club / SP cycles spring circuit race. The team is sponsored by London based recruitment consultancy Cue Personnel.

The Thanet RC Race Team is to provide a team environment for club members who are committed to competitive cycle racing. The team will seek to provide an enjoyable and competitive environment for race team members and will have a particular focus on developing young talent from within the club.

The team is made up of 9 riders, across a range of cycling disciplines and ages. The riders are Jack Bryant, Sebastian Dickson, Bill Hawkes, Simon Henderson, Joshua Outram, Mark Palmer, Rick Perkins, Steve Quincey and Rob Milnes.

The Race Team has a strong collaboration with the Go-Ride and Youth Development sections of Thanet Road Club, ensuring that the young riders can progress into a race team with experience to help mentor and guide.

From a triathlon background, now focusing on road racing, Time Trials and Mountain biking. The main focus of 2014 is to get under 4:20 for a 100 Mile time trial and attain a Cat 3 road racing license.

Rick Perkins (47)

Rick came back to cycling a few years ago having raced in the 80s. In that break he focused on sailing where he was British Champion in the Musto Skiff Class.

Rick’s cycling focus for 2014 is time trials and his objective is to improve on last seasons ranking of 80th in the British Best All Rounder competition and to improve PB times.

Bill Hawkes (46)

Bill joined Thanet RC in 2009 and started doing time trials in 2010. PBs for 10 and 25 miles are 21.57 and 58.04. Focus is now more on road racing and main aim is to try and gain 2nd Category Race License this year.

Mark Palmer (45)

Mark comes from mountain bike racing but is focusing on road events this season targeting further reductions in his time trial PB and in road racing to achieve a cat 3 licence.

Jack Bryant (16)

Picked up a road bike 2 years ago.

My main goals will be on racing and trying to attain a cat 2 licence and keep it.

Jack is a graduate of the Thanet RC Youth Development Team.

Joshua Outram (16)

Disciplines:

Road, Time Trialling, Cyclocross and MTB

Joshua started riding in 2011. The first two years of cycling he was mainly focused on mountain biking where he raced at regional and National level, in between doing all of the mountain bike racing he decided to do a few road races which went well. In the winter of 2013 he started his first cyclocross season where he had a very good consistent season. In 2014 he is looking to mainly focus on the cyclocross season by competing in regional and national races and try to make the GB cyclocross development team.

Joshua is a graduate of the Thanet RC Youth Development Team.

Sebastian Dickson (18)

Seb’s main discipline is Time Trialling. He aims to do well in the KCA middle distance BAR.
His PBs are 21:13 for 10 miles, 56:13 for 25, 1:56:41 over 50 miles (Kent junior record) and 3:59:33 for 100 miles (also kent junior record), all on Kent courses.

A side aim is to regain his 2nd Cat license in road racing

Sebastian is a graduate of the Thanet RC Youth Development Team.

Simon Henderson (51)

Simon is the oldest member of the team and leaves all the road racing to the ‘youngsters’
He has been ‘testing’ since 2008. Simon tries to complete in most events throughout Kent.

His goal for 2014 is to continue to improve my personal bests at all distances.

Steve Quincey (42)

Disciplines:

Time Trialling, Road Racing & Coaching

Steve has been racing for the best part of 20 years and hopes to bring to the team some knowledge and experience, particularly to the newer and younger members. Steve has done a lot of racing, some good, some bad and some really ugly. These days he enjoys all aspects of cycling, including coaching (level 2 BC Coach), commuting, but especially the coffee and cake post training.
