It would seem that the time trials on the Thanet Way are becoming quite popular as this week we had 39 riders sign on. A few years ago, we would only get about 15 riders and less if the weather looked a bit poor. I think that the good weather helped, as it was warm and the wind was a gentle northerly cross wind.

The conditions certainly helped to produce some good times and a number of riders were heard to say “that’s a PB for me!”. Compared to last week’s times, those riders who rode both events generally improved this week, some by over a minute, others by just a handful of seconds. Proof that it was a good evening was a new course record for Chris Fennell with an outstanding time of 19.54! I’m pretty certain that this is the first sub 20 minute ride on this course, and probably would have been an even faster time on the original course. James Mapley, (Blazing Saddles) came second with 20.47 and TRC junior, Dan Martin shared third place with a very respectable time of 21.55. See attached PDF document for all the times.

This week’s band of volunteers were Andy McCall, Sue Shields, Tansy and Lawrence Martin, Malcolm Adams, Paul Kirkness, Lance Childs, George Pittock and Dave Mastin.
