Glenn Nichols Trophy: for the best performance in autumn handicap in the final evening 10-mile event of the season.
Little is known of the story behind this trophy as it is not a memorial trophy. Glenn was a junior rider with TRC in the late sixties/early seventies and carried on riding with the club until he emigrated to New Zealand in the seventies.
He worked as window cleaner for Tom Webzell, another club ride, and for a fireplace business in Birchington and donated a cup to the club before emigrating. We believe the reason why Glenn wanted it to be a handicap trophy was, according to Morris Crow, “he wasn’t that fast.” The mystery behind this cup was the inspiration for David Robert, the club heritage officer who won the trophy in 2014, to research club history leading to the 70th anniversary project.
