Jim Linton Cup

INSCRIPTION ON THE CUP: THE JIM LINTON MEMORIAL FOR MERIT

Awarded to the first year young member who in the opinion of the committee has shown the best performance of the season
Jim was from the Midlands. He served in an army regiment in Leicester and was famed for escaping the Germans over the Pyrenees. Time spent with the French Resistance led him to become a French speaker. He moved to Margate and became an active member of TRC from the seventies. He was a keen rider and held numerous club offices including racing secretary, timekeeper and the organiser of club dinners.
He was also an active member of the Margate Blind Club, driving the minibus and recording a regular “talking newspaper.”
He died in December 1982, just before his 73rd birthday, following a Saturday morning club ride near Minster.
Photo shows Jim celebrating his 70th birthday at the Black Pig in Staple.
